DVD review (regions 1 and 2)
Directed by Mennan Yapo
Starring Sandra Bullock, Julian McMahon, Shyann McClure

Housewife Linda Hansen gets up one morning to discover that her husband Jim has been killed in a car crash. But when she awakes the next day she finds Jim very much alive. It soon becomes clear that Linda is living a week of her life out of order; some days Jim is dead, others he’s alive. Can she put together the pieces of the puzzle in time to save her husband?

Premonition is without a doubt one of the most irritating movies ever made. Nonsensical is another way of describing it. Useless, boring and a complete waste of two hours of your life also sum it up nicely.

The premise itself is decent, it’s the execution that lets it down – the story just doesn’t make sense. As Wednesday becomes Tuesday and Tuesday becomes Friday, the plot unravels at a rate of knots. Why, for example, do the elder daughter’s scars disappear then reappear in random fashion (they certainly don’t tally with the flashbacks and flash-forwards)? And who in God’s name decided it would be a good idea to bring faith into the story three quarters of the way through when Bullock’s character had shown no interest in the Church prior to this point?

For a horror film, it’s also completely suspense free, the jumpiest moment coming when a couple of pallbearers somehow manage to drop the coffin (how on Earth?).

The extras are a mixed bag. Gag reels are always good for a giggle and stars McMahon and Bullock have fun messing about with the crew, while the featurette ‘Bringing Order To Chaos’, which shows a condensed version of the film in the correct order (i.e. Sunday to Saturday) is worth a watch if only to confirm your suspicions that the film is utter claptrap. VERDICT: 2/10
In the right hands Premonition could have a Memento-style masterpiece; instead it’s a jumbled mess. Have the foresight to avoid this one.
