More blocky action from a galaxy far, far away…

You wouldn’t have thought that the merging of two powerhouses would have had such legs. If anything, the appeal of both brands should be diluted in crossover form. Yet, somehow, the meeting of LEGO with the Star Wars universe is still an engaging prospect over 10 years on from when the idea was originally conceived.

This third LEGO Star Wars game (a compilation of the first two is still available for those playing catch-up) is deceptively easy on first glance. But just you try collecting all the studs required to buy new characters, ships and ground transports!

As before, there’s the chance to play through the missions, based on episodes of The Clone Wars TV show and the Attack of the Clones movie, and then revisit the locations with a team of new characters and hunt for secrets in a ‘free play’ mode.

The game is a mixture of the classic platform-based exploration and space battles that featured in the previous instalments, plus an excellent new ‘command and conquer’ style battlefield mode. This is one of the best aspects of the new game and also the toughest as hordes of enemies rush at you from designated areas that you must try to destroy and claim as your own.

The sheer number of characters is astonishing. At the time of writing, I have completed 41% of the game with plenty of characters left to unlock. This is a game designed to last and represents excellent value for money – and it's only enhanced by a fiendishly addictive multiplayer game. In short, another blockbuster! Adam Herman

VERDICT: 9/10
Another block-rocking success for this great crossover.
