April 29th and the truth behind the FlashForwards becomes clear. Sort of.

Appropriately, FlashForward's finale had some of the show's best and worst aspects, often in the same scene – overacting from certain cast members, ridiculously syrupy music for the soap opera sections, well-directed action sequences and a whole host of questions left unanswered.

Hoops had to be jumped through to get everyone to where they needed to be at the time the FlashForward represented, and if we got an explanation as to why Agent Noh's future was changed when everyone else was stuck on the predestined path, it was lost in the technobabble.

One nice piece of humour involved the guard at the immigration centre who took advantage of the proximity of the FlashForward time to make $100, but hands up anyone who hadn't worked out that Nicole was being rescued from drowning rather than being pushed under by some mysterious assailant.

Presumably in the vague hope that the show might get picked up by another network, 2015 was designated as the next "FlashForward Day", conveniently during a potential fifth season, but the odds of that happening are exceedingly low.

At least ABC allowed the show to play the full year, but the amount of behind the scenes changes and alterations in emphasis meant a lack of continuity, and unsurprisingly, a fast-declining audience. Paul Simpson

VERDICT: 5/10
