Supernatural marks its 100th episode in a low-key fashion with just a couple of visual references – watch out for fleeting glimpses of motel room doors. But in terms of the story arc things are totally hotting up. This is not an action-packed episode by any means, but it does take a couple of left turns along the way, and leaves a lot unexplained and unresolved.

The writing and acting allows the various allegiances to develop subtly but with a fair bit of dramatic tension. So as a significant milestone in the series, Supernatural does not go down the comic pastiche or whiz-bang spectacle of others shows, but instead executes a fine episode that provides a showcase for the talent of the actors.

After the wow moments of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and the intrigue of ‘99 Problems’, this episode effectively sets the tone for the finale – and the apocalypse! Brigid Cherry

VERDICT: 8/10
