We visit parallel-universe Hurley, and a couple of old/dead faces make a return...
I had very low expectations for this episode after learning its title – was it going to be a throwaway Hurley comedy episode? That’s all we need at the moment! But actually, no – it’s a pretty solid episode. And while the revelations still aren’t coming thick and fast, one gets the feeling that answers – particularly about these mysterious sideways flashes – might be just around the corner.
It’s nice to see the return of Libby, who I always felt left the series way too early – and there are some cute and fairly intense scenes between her and Hurley.
Problems with this episode? Okay, firstly, does anyone for one minute think that Desmond is really dead, after Evil Locke tipped him down that well? (And did anyone else find that moment just a teeny bit funny…?)
Secondly, the death of Ilana – they already did that kind of death with Arzt, and surely there was more about her that needed to be explored? Very strange decision by the writers.
And finally, the explanation of the Whispers (given by Ghost Michael, who seems greyer now – do ghosts go grey?): it just seems delivered in such a throwaway manner… almost as if it was supposed to have been obvious to us all along. Weird…
Anyway, if you’re bored of me moaning about Lost, my review buddy Ned is back next week, and he’ll be much more positive about the whole thing! Martin Eden
VERDICT: 6/10
