Aaron tries to save his daughter, as Zoe attempts to alter Dimitri's future...

Possibly the longest "previously on..." segment in recent times precedes this rather scrappy episode, which tries to move every plotline forward a little bit, and ends up not really satisfying any of them.

The merry-go-round of producers is beginning to affect the show: it's as if they've looked at the pilot and realised that they're running out of time to get everyone to where they need to be by the date of the Event.

FBI agent Mark therefore suddenly becomes allies with Lloyd Simcoe; his AA buddy Aaron blows credibility by going Rambo on the leader of the black ops group who have kidnapped his daughter – wouldn't someone like that have at least one guard?! – while the FBI boss gives into the least effective moral blackmail seen on TV. And it seems as Dominic Monaghan's psychopathic Simon is being set up as the father of Janis's child with some very poorly-written telegraphing.

Couple all that with far too many flashbacks to establish new pasts for some of the characters, and you’ve got a TV show that's lost its way. With yet another change of producers, and therefore direction for the show, happening around episode 17, FlashForward is fast becoming an object lesson in how not to build on a successful pilot.
