Young is covering up his abandonment of Rush by claiming the scientist was killed in a landslide, but Wray is more than a little suspicious. And when he attempts to give his report to Earth via the stones, something goes horribly wrong and she is unable to make a report of her own. Instead the Destiny comes under attack from an unknown alien force…

This is a nail-biting follow-up to Justice and creates a novel twist in the fate of the humans trapped aboard the Ancient ship.

Whilst the stones do keep the series firmly connected to previous versions of Stargate, they could become an overused device. So this hijacking of their function gives them a dangerous and unpredictable edge. And the creation of a lifeform that seems completely and absolutely alien in many ways makes a refreshing change on the special effects front.

There are also a few sudden shocks and surprises in the episode that are handled well on the plotting and direction fronts. It’s a great return for the series after a mid-season break that has been all too long. Brigid Cherry

VERDICT: 8/10
