TV episode review
UK airdate 7 February 2010 (BBC Three)
Mitchell is tempted back to feeding; Annie is left holding a ghost baby; while George tries to cope with a normal relationship…
Being Human’s blend of drama and humour has tended to be favoured more towards the former so far this series. This episode does something to redress the balance, with both Annie and George's situations being played for laughs for much of the time, even if there are underlying dramatic motives revealed at their resolution.
It’s a Mitchell-heavy episode though, with the welcome return of Herrick in a flashback to 1969 that deliberately counterpoints Mitchell's desire to turn away from feeding during that period with his attempts in 2010 to keep his flock on the straight and narrow. There are bound to be ramifications both from the death of the Chief Constable, and from sleeping with Lucy – aka Professor Jaggat – which hopefully won't be glossed over quickly.
It’s more graphic than we've seen recently, and a sharp reminder of the "reality" of the vampire life. The dinner that Lucy is preparing is very reminiscent of the end of Russell T Davies' The Second Coming, so the sharp left turn that the story takes when Mitchell arrives for the meal is welcome.
Not the strongest episode of the season, but still very watchable. Paul Simpson
VERDICT: 6/10
