Sam Witwicky gets caught up once again in the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons…

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a loud movie. A very, very loud movie. So loud that the chances of catching the vast majority of the dialogue, particularly in the battle sequences, is pretty low – and that’s where this novelisation comes into its own.

Although as usual there are some differences between Foster’s prose version and the final movie - inevitable when a lot of the dialogue was being honed in the cutting room - you get a lot more insight into exactly what the Decepticons are up to.

Being a seasoned noveliser, Alan Dean Foster doesn’t hesitate to add in information where necessary, clearing up plot holes and moments that don’t quite add up when you sit back and think about them (something that happens when reading a book that simply doesn’t in the movie theatre). He’s unusually coy though in certain scenes – particularly some of the moments involving Sam’s mother. Paul Simpson

VERDICT: 7/10
As with the prequel novel, Revenge of the Fallen isn’t a book with a message. It’s an account of a fight between two robot races – but like the film, it raises a smile amid the action.
