Zombies go on the rampage in this animated adaptation of the videogame franchise…

Part of the danger of producing an animated version of a videogame is that it can feel like a cut scene from the game. 2001’s Final Fantasy got around this by employing cutting edge animation technology, and still looks impressive today. Resident Evil: Degeneration is less successful.

The plot lacks the fun of Paul Anderson’s sprightly movie version or, indeed, its sequels. In fact, Degeneration is a flat, po-faced effort with a clunky script, and features dull, disinterested delivery from the voice talent.

What should have been the one saving grace of the project - the action - is thin on the ground and poorly executed. In fact, the majority of the film features people talking on monitors - it’s less than thrilling stuff.

It’s hard to know who, beyond die hard fans of the game, will enjoy this. There’s nothing here to entice new fans, while stalwarts are likely to be itching to pick up a joypad within seconds of pressing play. Jonathan Wilkins

VERDICT: 2/10
It feels like this one was actually made by zombies.
