The Sixth Doctor and Charley return to Spiridon, scene of one of the Doctor's earlier adventures...

"Perhaps one of the most convoluted plots I've ever had to wrap my brain around while doing a Big Finish, " Colin Baker comments at the start of the CD extras, and that's probably an understatement. Like the recent Time Reef, you need to concentrate carefully on what you're being told, and not let yourself be put off by the sometimes disorienting soundscape. There's a reason for all of it, much of which doesn't get explained until the last track.

There's also a false episode start, and a quite lengthy coda to the story after the end titles have run, both of which play into the idea that someone is narrating the tale. This could also explain the not very cliffhangery nature of the end of the second episode as well.

Baker and India Fisher work well together, and in their scenes with Michael Cochrane as Murgat. Everyone seems to get a go with the Dalek voice synthesizer, with Nick Briggs relegated almost to a supporting role! Peter Quentin

VERDICT: 7/10
An intriguing story which adds to the show's mythology.
