TV episode review
US airdate 18 January 2008 (Sci Fi Channel)
Someone has poisoned the free water that Flash supplied to the cantons – and now everyone on Mongo is falling ill…
Okay, now it’s far too late, Sci Fi starts to provide recaps at the top of the episode! Effectively forming a second half to last week’s Ebb and Flow, this sees Flash team up with Aura to find an antidote to the poison in the water, while Baylin and a vengeful Dale interrogate Ming’s scientist assistant Lenu.
The gaping hole at the heart of the episode is quite when this poison was introduced to the water supply. Ming was going to let the cantons have the water he’d stolen from Earth but charge them for the privilege; all Flash did was supply it for nothing. Yet somehow Ming poisoned the water?
Flash and Aura make a decent combination, but the B plot overstays its welcome – we could have done with a Rankol scene or two to relieve the monotony. We do learn though that Dr Lawrence Gordon, Flash’s dad who’s not been mentioned for months, is still alive, telegraphing another plot twist with the subtlety of a 10 ton truck.
There’s no real sense of urgency, which, given that there’s only three episodes left, is quite surprising in a serial! Paul Simpson
VERDICT: 5/10
