TV episode review
US airdate 29 April 2008 (The CW)
Andi panics after apparently seeing Sam kill somebody in cold blood - in fact all she saw was him beheading a demon. Desperate to tell Andi the truth before she goes to the cops, Sam makes a deal with Devil. Meanwhile, Ben weirdly gets married...
In this episode, we finally get to see what happens when Andi gets too close – something the Devil has always warned Sam against, and a totally logical plot development that is long overdue. Andi has been growing more suspicious, and she follows Sam and Sock on a mission to capture an escaped soul who happens to be a narcissistic sperm bank worker. She then catches Sam using the vessel of the week, a gargantuan and pretty effective scythe that makes cool noises when it pops out. One thing leads to another and before Sam knows it Andi decides that she's got to shop him to the cops.
Sam's in a tight spot, but the Devil has an out. He can tell Andi the truth but he has to spy on the resurrected Demon resistance movement – which brings with it the slight moral problem of betraying his gay demonic former neighbour Tony, who has been an excellent source of gourmet and fashion advice. Keeping Andi away from the cops also turns into a typical comedy of errors involving the trunk of Sock's car...
Ben goes off on a journey of his own, including getting married to Work Bench colleague Sara (The Office's Lucy Davis) in order to help her get her green card (“I think she's great, I think she'd make an excellent citizen...And she paid me 1600 bucks!”). Sadly, despite the cash bonus Ben actually meets the girl of his dreams at the hospital soon afterwards – typical!
This is a fine show, and the network clearly agree – Reaper has happily just been renewed. Owen Van Spall
VERDICT: 7/10
