TV episode review
US airdate 22 April 2008 (The CW)
Demon neighbours Steve and Tony try to lure the Devil into a trap by exploiting his strangely close relationship with Sam. Meanwhile, Andi actually makes a date with Sam…
The introduction of an over-arching plot in the form of Sam's recruitment into Tony and Steve's plan to topple the Devil has given the series a real kick. This episode moves along at a neat pace and delivers plenty of laughs – if only Reaper had ditched the soul-of-the-week routine earlier.
Getting Sam and Andi together is also long overdue. See – it wasn't so hard now was it? It never made much sense to keep Missy Peregrym out of the larger picture when she was always supposed to be part of the main cast, and hopefully she won't be wasted anymore.
Tony and Steve continue to deliver comedy gold, especially when their clandestine ‘circle' of rebel demons share their ‘goodly' sins – deeds designed to undermine Satan such as topping up parking meters anonymously and saving kittens. Given that Sam and the Devil's relationship has always been Reaper's most interesting aspect, putting Sam in the situation of trying to lure Satan into an ambush works to make a better episode.
By the episode's end, as the Devil and Sam are locked in another tête-à-tête, it can only be said that you should always expect the Devil to hold the trump card. Whether Sam can ever even the odds remains to be seen. Owen Van Spall
VERDICT: 7/10
