US airdate 27 March 2007 (The CW)
Sam, Sock and Ben go after a soul who wants to destroy any female she deems prettier than her…
After keeping the poor guy hanging on for an eternity, Andi finally admits she has feelings for Sam (waiting with spectacular timing until he’s going out with Cady). It's about time Reaper got this long-running will-they won’t-they plot arc moving in any direction, but, in true superhero fashion, Sam's path to getting what he wants is blocked by the danger he poses to others while kicking ass for Satan. The Devil, of course, gloats over his charge's dilemma in between the usual crackling wisecracks.
Giving Sam, Sock and Ben a pair of gay demons as neighbours keeps the jokes flowing and beefs up Reaper's cast at a time when the show needed extra juice to avoid feeling formulaic. "Demophobically" freaking out over having demon neighbours just when their bachelor pad was secure, Sock and Ben agonise over how much they miss Tony and Steven's laundry tips, fine cooking and stylish soirees – and the comfort that they'd subconsciously found replacements for their parents.
This episode keeps up the restored pace of last week's instalment. Reaper is at its best when it moves quickly, lets Sock do his thing and packs the gags in. And as a bonus you get the sight of Ray Wise in a lady's wig. Owen Van Spall
VERDICT: 7/10
