French horror helmer Jean Rollin has died, aged 72.

The director (and writer, producer and actor) found cult fame with his debut feature, 1968’s Le Viol du Vampire (The Rape of the Vampire), which was released during that year’s Paris riots.

Rollin’s subsequent movies included other vampire films (The Nude Vampire, The Shiver of the Vampires, Requiem for a Vampire) rape-and-revenge-and-Devil pic Les Démoniaques (1973), 1978’s zombie gorefest Les Raisins de La Mort (The Grapes of Death) and 1981’s Le Lac des Morts Vivants (Zombie Lake).
