Julie Gardner, the executive producer of Doctor Who has confirmed that Paul Cornell’s story for the new series has links to his novel Human Nature, published as part of Virgin’s New Adventures series in 1995.


In the novel, the Doctor gives up his Time Lord persona to experience life as a human teacher. The new story is provisionally called The Family of Blood.


Rob Shearman’s episode for the first series, Dalek, was also connected to an earlier story, being based partly on elements from his audio adventure, Jubilee.
