Arthur Curry, better known as DC Comics superhero Aquaman, will return to Smallville for the show’s final season, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Actor Alan Ritchson has portrayed the aquatic hero since he was introduced in season five of the TV series. Aquaman was last seen in season eight, when his identity was discovered by LuthorCorp. He was part of Green Arrow’s ‘Justice League’ but the team disbanded faced with the new threat posed by LuthorCorps new head honcho, Tess Mercer.

Aquaman will reappear in episode nine of the tenth series. He joins a host of returning characters, including Kara Kent/Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), Jonathan Kent (John Schneider), Lionel Luthor (John Glover) and Brainiac (James Marsters).

Season nine of Smallville is currently airing Tuesdays at 9pm on E4. The final season debuts on The CW on September 24 in the US.
