Microsoft have admitted that they are “still interested” in adapting the hit video game franchise, Halo, for the big screen.
Speaking to Variety, Frank O’Connor, who oversees the Halo franchise for Microsoft, revealed, "[Microsoft are] still interested in making an excellent Halo movie. We've created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film.
“We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won't move on it until there's a great reason to do it. We're in no particular hurry,” he added.
A Halo film was originally conceived for release in summer 2007, but due to the potentially increasing production costs and the fact that movies based on video games were considered unsuccessful at the time, plans stalled. The adaptation would have been produced by Peter Jackson with Neill Blomkamp (District 9) attached to direct.
O’Connor was adamant that the film would not be a "a verbatim retelling of the game." Microsoft is also "intently watching" the TV landscape as a potential outlet for a Halo series.
The latest Halo instalment, Halo: Reach, is due for release on Xbox 360 on September 14.
