Star Wars creator George Lucas has confirmed that all six Star Wars films will be released on Blu-ray next year.

Speaking to fans at this year’s Celebration V event in Orlando, Florida, Lucas said, "I wish I could say it's coming out this year, but it's coming out next year."

He continued, "There'll be different kinds of additional material. I think you've seen enough behind the scenes [material] for a lifetime. There's some really good material that will be included in there, [including] more deleted scenes that you haven't seen yet."

Talk show host and Star Wars fan, Jon Stewart, interviewed Lucas to a packed audience on Sunday. They were joined later by Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia themselves, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, who introduced several deleted scenes, including one where Luke assembles his own lightsaber and reveals the green blade for the first time.

Only the special edition versions of the films will be available on the Blu-ray release, which will include "documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives."

The Star Wars saga Blu-ray collection is due for release Autumn 2011.
