Acclaimed musician, screenwriter and occasional actor, Nick Cave, is to pen a redraft of The Crow remake, according to The Wrap.
The frontman of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds has been hired by producer Ed Pressman to rework a draft of the script originally written by Stephen Norrington (Blade, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen).
Cave wrote the screenplay for John Hillcoat’s violent 2005 western, The Proposition, which was lauded by critics. He was touted as one of cinema’s ‘up and coming’ screenwriters, but despite writing a sequel to Gladiator that was rejected by the studio, Cave has only been recently involved on a musical level, contributing songs to films such as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
The Crow is based on the 1989 comic book miniseries by James O’Barr. The story centres on a man named Eric Draven, who is killed by a gang of thugs when they assault him and his fiancée, Shelly. Resurrected by a crow, Eric seeks vengeance on the murderers.
A casting announcement for the role of The Crow is expected shortly. Production on the reboot is scheduled to start later this year.
