Singer Rihanna will make her feature film debut in Battleship, a sci-fi action movie based on Hasbro’s popular naval combat board game, reports Variety.

Directed by Peter Berg (Hancock), Battleship sees Earth invaded by an alien naval fleet in search of an as yet unknown entity. The world’s navies are forced to band together to ward off the invaders, which takes place over land, sea and sky.

Rihanna will join Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood). Kitsch, who previously worked with Berg on the NBC series Friday Night Lights, will portray the role of a naval office who leads the fight, with Skarsgård playing his brother.

Battleship is due for release in cinemas May 25, 2012.
