Chloe Sullivan, Clark Kent’s best friend in Smallville, will make her first appearance in a DC comic in September, it was announced at Comic-Con International.
Sullivan was an original character created by former Smallville showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and has appeared in the series since the pilot episode. DC had planned for the character to make her debut comic appearance a few years ago, but the creators were unable to find a suitable way for the character to enter the Superman comic world.
During the DC Universe: Event Horizon panel, Nick Spencer revealed that Sullivan would be joining Daily Bugle photographer Jimmy Olsen in the Action Comics co-feature that he is writing, starting from issue #893.
"I am a big Smallville fan and I've always thought that it was sad that she hadn't been worked into the DCU continuity yet," said Spencer, who pitched the idea to DC."She's an amazing character and it was always something I wanted to do. And then when the Jimmy thing happened, I realised that it was the perfect chance to get Chloe in there."
In other Smallville news, Chief Creative Officer and Green Lantern writer Geoff Johns announced at the Smallville panel that he would write an episode for the final season of the TV show, which will star superheroes Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.
The big baddie for the tenth season was revealed to be Darkseid, one of the DC universe’s most nefarious villains. Rumours continue to circulate that Michael Rosenbaum, who was “killed” in season seven, will reprise his role in the show’s final season.
Action Comics #893 is released September 29 in the US. Smallville season nine is currently airing on E4, Tuesdays at 9pm in the UK. The final season of Smallville premieres September 24 at 8pm on The CW.
