Smallville baddie Sam Witwer, who played Doomsday in the superhero drama series, has been cast as vampire Aidan in the US remake of the BBC’s Being Human.

Being Human revolves around three twenty-something roommates, George, Mitchell and Annie, who try to live normal lives despite being a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost respectively. The first two seasons of the show have been a cult hit for the BBC in both the US and the UK, and a third season is currently in the works.

Earlier in the year, executive producer of US Being Human, Rob Pursey, commented that a number of changes have been made to the remake, such as certain personality traits and character names. SyFy is responsible for the remake, which has also cast Meaghan Rath (The Assistants) as ghost Molly, and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns) as werewolf Josh.

The second season of the UK Being Human will premiere in the US on July 24 on BBC America. Pre-production on the remake is due to start next month and it is scheduled to air in 2011.
