According to Entertainment Tonight, Megan Fox will not be returning to the role of Mikaela Banes in Transformers 3.

A spokesperson for Paramount Pictures confirmed that Fox’s contract has not been renewed. Instead, the robot-smashing sequel will see a new love interest for leading man Shia LaBoeuf, who plays Sam Witwicky.

While no official reason was given as to why Fox departed from the franchise, a representative for the actress told People that “Megan Fox will not be starring in Transformers 3. It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best.”

There is no word yet as to who will play LaBoeuf’s new love interest.

Principal photography for Transformers 3 is set to begin July 4. The film is scheduled for release on July 1, 2011.
