It’s been announced that Akiva Goldsman has joined Paranormal Activity 2 in the capacity of executive producer. Goldsman will also help the movie’s writers Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider to carve out a script.

Previously Goldsman (whose screenplay credits include A Beautiful Mind and I Am Legend) was tipped to be in the running as director of the project. According to Deadline, Paramount are still looking for a director.

Low budget Paranormal Activity was a box office success story in 2009, grossing over $1m in the US alone. It’s thought that the movie cost just $15,000 to make.

The sequel is apparently planned for release on October 22 this year, the same day as Saw 3D.
