HBO have announced that they plan to begin airing the third season of True Blood on 13 June 2010, giving it a Sunday night slot.

True Blood, based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris, secured 5.1 million viewers for its season two finale.

It’s rumoured that season three will see Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) go on a mission, leaving his human girlfriend Sookie (Anna Paquin) behind. New cast members will include Joe Manganiello (Spider-Man), Cooper Huckabee (The Funhouse) and Kevin Alejandro (Southland).

True Blood has enjoyed huge success at the award ceremonies over the last year, picking up a Golden Globe and a Television Critics Association Award, plus nominations from the SAG and Writers Guild.

New episodes of True Blood season two are currently airing in the UK on FX.
