Deadline Hollywood has revealed the line up of actors who have been invited to do full screen tests for the role of Captain America in Joe Johnston's new movie, set to start shooting this summer.
Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford, John Krasinski of The Office, Scott Porter of Friday Night Lights, Cloverfield's Mike Vogel and Michael Cassidy of Smallville are all vying for the part, with Tron Legacy's Garrett Hedlund apparently unable to agree a deal with Marvel. The website indicates that the successful candidate must sign on for nine other options, including sequels and the 2012 Avengers movie.
The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog noted that Supernatural's Jensen Ackles is also a potential lead, adding that "sources on both sides caution that an actor may not be found from the tests, which happened during Marvel's search for the man who would be Thor. For that movie, currently shooting in Manhattan Beach, the studio conducted several rounds of testing but found its star, Chris Hemsworth, out of left field."
