Following considerable internet speculation that George Lucas was finally putting together the third Star Wars trilogy of films that had been mentioned around the time of the original trilogy, Lucasfilm have categorically denied that they are preparing any Star Wars movies for theatrical release.

The Marketsaw blogspot had claimed that Lucas was preparing a new trilogy to be shot in 3-D, with Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola lined up to direct the instalments. However when AintItCoolNews.com checked with Lucasfilm, their publicity department stated bluntly that "We do not have any Star Wars theatrical movies planned."

The most recent Star Wars theatrical movie was the pilot for The Clone Wars animated TV series.
