With the networks announcing their autumn line-ups, Fox has officially stated that last season's break out hit Fringe is coming back for a second year.

Reports had already indicated that the second year would shoot in Vancouver, with Leonard Nimoy making a multi-episode appearance as William Bell. Fox president Kevin Reilly noted that "Fringe proved to be a notable addition to our schedule all season, and it really has fans buzzing as it builds to a fantastic season finale."

However the news is less good for other genre shows, although there have been strong hints that Medium has been renewed for a sixth season. NBC has yet to decide the fate of Chuck, while Fox has not yet stated whether either of its underperforming shows, Joss Whedon's Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will be returning next season.
