The Andromeda Strain and 24 star Ricky Schroder is heading behind the camera to direct the Sci Fi Channel TV movie Hellhounds, which began shooting in Romania this weekend.
Hellhounds mirrors the ancient myth of Orpheus’ journey to the Underworld. Scott Elrod stars as Kleitos, a Greek warrior who fights against the hellhounds of Hades to rescue his bride and bring her back to life. Hellhounds is unlikely to have the downbeat ending of the original tale, in which Orpheus lost his wife.
Schroder previously wrote and directed the boxing biopic Black Cloud, and is one of the directors on the anthology movie Locker 13, out next year. The CGI-heavy Hellhounds is scripted by Paul A. Birkett, and will air on Sci Fi in 2009.
