Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth are being lined up to play Gomez and Morticia in a stage adaptation of Charles Addams' classic cartoon series The Addams Family.

The two actors will take the roles in a closed reading of the new musical which is expected to open on Broadway in the 2009-2010 season, following an out of town tryout. The book is by Jersey Boys' Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice with music by The Wild Party's Andrew Lippa.

Neither actor has signed for the roles in the stage production, although their involvement at the developmental stage will give them an inside track.

Meanwhile former Star Trek: Voyager captain Kate Mulgrew is joining Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths in the Broadway version of Peter Shaffer's Equus, which opens for previews at the Broadhurst Theater on September 5th.
