Gary Gygax, who created the fantasy game Dungeons and Dragons with Dave Arneson, has died aged 69.

Gygax continued to play the game until shortly before his death, his widow Gail told Mania.com, and was hosting games as recently as January. “It really meant a lot to him to hear from people from over the years about how he helped them become a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, what he gave them," she said. "He really enjoyed that."

He had been suffering poor health for several years, and died at his home in Lake Geneva.
