Sanctuary, the online high definition web series executive produced by Stargate SG-1's Amanda Tapping, Damian Kindler and Martin Wood alongside Masters of Science Fiction's Sam Egan, is to come to television.

The US Sci Fi Channel has ordered a full 13 episode season, using much of the footage from the original web series. A new two hour premiere episode will be shot.

Sanctuary follows Tapping's Dr Helen Magnus, who works with her protégé Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), tracking down, aiding and protecting strange creatures that walk the Earth.

90 percent of the sets in Sanctuary are CGI. "We were blown away by the level of quality they have been able to achieve on a Web budget," Sci Fi's Mark Stern told the Hollywood Reporter. "We loved the world they'd created, and we particularly loved their approach, since we had been looking for a way to apply the virtual-set CGI environment from films like 300 and Sin City to a television series."

As Sanctuary is based in Canada, it is not affected by the WGA strike, and will begin production in March.
