Total Sci-Fi has never knowingly turned downed a zombie-based event or a burlesque-based event, so a night that combined the two was clearly an offer we couldn’t refuse.
The venue was the Cobden Club in West London and the excuse was a promo event for new British zom-com Zombie Women of Satan, which arrives on DVD on 21st June 2010. The movie stars real life burlesque star (and compere for the evening) Warren Speed as Pervo the Clown, part of a freakshow burlesque troupe who do battle with – yep, you guessed it – zombie women.
The night kicked off with four professional burlesque performers: 1940s-style showgirl, Banbury Cross; the cobweb chic of Hell’s Belle; Betty D’Light’s sexy clowning; and the entirely terrifying blood-drinking, snarling bat spectacle of Marnie Scarlett.

It was then on to the ‘Miss Zombie Queen UK’ beauty pageant, in which 10 contestants showed off their skills at flesh-munching, stylised staggering and blood-soaked striptease. Highlights included a bopping detective-turned-zombie and an undead sexy sailor, but the enthusiastic, blood-hungry “Von” was deemed the eventual winner by a panel of judges.
